Wild Fig Restaurant

This is the primary source of coffee, tea, and food at the resort. Take note of the times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can also meet some of the other guests staying at the resort here.

The first day might be short, so we recommend going for an afternoon zip line if you can or enjoying some of the hikes around the facility.

There are many things to do around Bocawina, and you'll not likely have enough time to cover it all. Once you check-in, the Wild Fig Restaraunt is the only restaurant around. Take note when breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served! There will be a number of activities you must register for in advance so take your first day to try and plan things out. Feel free to follow our suggestions, but some may also be weather dependent, so be flexible. We recommend booking the waterfall repel and centering everything around it. It is a bit adventurous but the most memorable experience around. The zip line course at the hotel is also amazing. Book it once or twice during your stay. It is very worthwhile and does not take too much time. The staff does a bird watching tour every morning, and throughout the day, if you have downtime, there are a lot of short hikes speckled all around the area that are safe to do on your own. Be sure to ask for a map and plan out those hikes between the highlighted activities we recommend. Of course, we don't blame you if you are too tired and need rest instead.

Antelope Falls Waterfall Repel

Stann Creek District

You'll have a nice hike to the top of the waterfall that will take some time. This area is not particularly bad with mosquitos or sun flies yet. Once you reach the top, there is a small pool of water you'll get to jump into and cool off. There is a rope to climb up and do a nice jump into the pool for the extra brave. Enjoy! After that is the main attraction! A two-pitch repel down the waterfall. I recommend shoes that grip wet rock well for this, but it isn't required. The important bit is maintaining proper form while repelling down (they will teach you, don't worry). One person will repel down one at a time, and during this time, you will begin to be eaten alive by sun flies. Therefore, I highly recommend that whoever goes down first apply some repellent for sun flies (you will thank me for this recommendation). After two pitches, you'll have an easy, albeit slippery, hike back down to the camp to have lunch.

We recommend enjoying more zip-lining or hikes around the camp in the afternoon.

If available, make sure to sign up for some of the night activities ranging from a nighttime zip-line or a guided hike. You might be tired at this point but make use of your time there and enjoy the nighttime experience! It is the best time to see the rare Jaguar and mountain cows they have in Belize.

There are not too many places in the world I know of where you can do a double pitched repel down a waterfall safely. It is not an experience you want to miss! Admittedly it will feel scary but the staff are experienced and will teach you everything you need to know. There is a somewhat strenuous hike up to the top of the waterfall&nbsp;as well. The activity will take most of the day. You will have your breakfast beforehand and lunch after.

Antelope Falls Waterfall Repelling

The hike up to Bocawina is about 45 minutes and goes by fast. However, once you get to the top, it is one pitch down and into a nice pool of water which you can relax and rest assured there won't be sun flies biting you there. The Bocawina waterfall repel is not quite as exhausting as Antelope, so it will feel like a nice breath of fresh air. At this point, you are likely feeling a bit tired, but keep going and use your afternoon wisely!

Last chance to enjoy one more zip line or cross off some of the remaining do-it-yourself hikes around the facility! There are great hikes here, don't miss them!

On your last day, time for more waterfall repelling! Bocawina Waterfall is not quite as amazing as Antelope falls but well worth doing. The hike to Bocawina Waterfall is quite a bit easier and the repelling is shorter and less steep. You'll enjoy breakfast before and lunch after the waterfall repelling.

Bocawina Waterfall Repelling

Bocawina National Park is the “land of the Jaguar,” as the entire area is a Jaguar nature preserve. With that said, the odds of seeing a Jaguar are rare. They are mostly nocturnal. That doesn't make Bocawina any less beautiful, and you should consider the entire area an adventurer's namesake. From zip lines, waterfall cliff jumping, waterfall repelling, hiking, and bird watching, Bocawina has a wide variety to keep you busy. The only cautionary I must warn is that Bocawina is full of sun flies and potentially botflies (known for laying their eggs on your skin). The botflies are very rare, but the sun flies are not. We were eaten alive by those sun flies, and they seem unphased by mosquito repellent. With that in mind, we wouldn't miss Bocawina if given the opportunity! Bocawina is a National Park full of activities, and you can visit it from nearby towns. We chose to stay directly in the national part at Bocawina Rainforest Resort &amp; Adventures, located at the park's heart.&nbsp; For those wanting a longer stay, the guest services there even offer group tours out of the resort to surrounding attractions, but we didn't make use of the services.
