On our first day on the Romeo &amp; Juliet trail in Verona, we visited the residences which Shakespeare used as inspiration for the protagonists' homes. The Casa de Giulietta and Casa di Romeo are both 13th Century buildings that are constructed so ornately. The famous balcony has been enshrined to mimic the play and is a must-see. When here, don't miss a visit to the iconic Castelvecchio Museum, which was built as a military architecture in the Middle Ages. The Catedral de Verona, with its glorious Titan artwork is just a few minutes walk from here. Torre dei Lamberti built in 1172AD is an ancient bell tower that offers panoramic views of the city.Next, we visited Scaligeri Tombs, a Gothic landmark in Verona, where Juliet faked her death. The Piazza dei Signori doubles as the town hall and Lord's Square, which hosted many-an-entertaining scenes in the play, including the sentencing of Romeo by Bartolomeo della Scala.For the evening, we headed for an early dinner at the Michelin star Ristorante Il Desco. Be sure to try the maltagliati with aubergine, goose foie gras, porcini mushroom, tomato, artichoke, fillet of S.Peter, thyme, and lemon.

On the second day of walking the path of the bard's greatest lovelorn couple, we visited Volto Barbaro, which is where the many fights between the Capulets and Montagues took place. Look out for the plaque here, which indicates the spot where Tybalt and Mercutio fought. Don't miss out on seeing the ancient amphitheater, Verona Arena, that's just about a 10 minutes walk from here.Our next visit was to see the Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, where Romeo and Juliet finally tied the knot. It's a romantic Romanesque architecture, filled with colorful trees and plants. The nearby Giusti Garden are replete with beautiful flowers and terraced gardens that are a sight for sore eyes. One of Verona's best art galleries, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna Achille Forti is close by and its artwork are a must-see for art lovers.Next, we went to see the iconic San Francesco al Corso Monastery, home to Juliet's tomb. There's also a bust of Shakespeare in the Monastery for you to visit. This is where the famous Juliet Club works out of. Millions of people write to the Juliet Club, confessing their stories of love, betrayal, and heartbreak, and they receive a letter from Juliet herself, sharing words of wisdom and solace.To finish our romantic getaway to Verona, we had our dinner at a historic restaurant - Antica Bottega Del Vino. They serve authentic Veronese food, some of which predate Romeo &amp; Juliet themselves.

Immersing ourselves in Shakespearean creativity

As lovers of Shakespeare, my partner and I wanted to visit the iconic landmarks that inspired the bard to write his greatest romantic tragedy. Our visit to Verona on the trail of Romeo and Juliet took us to some of the lesser-known sites here. There is a bit of walking, and it is best if you dress in comfortable clothing. But do bring your fancy dresses too, since Verona has many romantic restaurants where you can rekindle your romance with your partner. Guided and audio tours are offered in each place, so be sure to avail of them.
