Wanderrast Großer Winterberg

After having a late breakfast, we were taken to see the beautiful Pravcicka Gate stone arch, which is a gorgeous natural sandstone formation. There are easy trails to stroll around nearby, and we spent an hour there. Next, we went to have lunch at a local restaurant renowned for its pizzas, Wanderrast Großer Winterberg. Then, made a trip to one of the tallest hills in the region - Vilemínina stěna. And then drove to see the beautiful Gorge of Kamenice. We were taken on a boat ride here and were able to catch the romantic sunset. We returned to our hotel for an early evening.

Elbe Sandstone Mountains

The next morning, we left to see the Bastei Bridge and Neurathen ruins, which are remnants of a castle built in the mid-1700s. The beautiful natural stone structure looks so eerie in the midst of the verdant forests of Saxon, Switzerland.Since the Bastei rocks formation was nearby, we decided to see those as well. These rocks are millions of years old, and it was humbling to be near them.We were hungry after exploring these ruins and so were taken to a nice little picnic spot to have the most delicious packed lunch and wine ever.Then we climbed up the Elbe Sandstone Mountains to reach its highest point, the lookout tower on Děčínsky Sněžník. We ended the day with a climb up Mariina Skala to see the sunset. After descending, we drove to the nearby village of Jetřichovice for a drink.&nbsp;

A stroll around the ancient castles of Saxony 

Saxon Switzerland National Park

On the last day of our trip, we explored the Nationalparkzentrum Bad Schandau, the heart of Saxon Switzerland national park in Germany. There are many elderly-friendly trails over here, and my partner and I really enjoyed the serenity and calm. We saw the Rathmannsdorf tower and took a ride on the Nationalparkbahn railway through the Sebnitz Valley too.We had lunch at a local restaurant on the premises and spent an hour seeing all the exhibits of flora and fauna that were arranged in the national park information center. It’s quite child-friendly.Then, we went to the souvenir shops to buy a couple of gifts for the grandkids back home. And off we went back to the hotel for an early evening of supper and packing to return home the next day.

Visiting the heart of wild Saxony

After our 40th wedding anniversary, we wanted to take a relaxing trip abroad. My partner and I went to Saxon, Switzerland, in Germany, and planned a quiet and slow holiday. We scheduled just the major visits and chose to relax at our resort, do some shopping and try out the delicious food here. There wasn’t much walking, and our tour operator had booked our transit everywhere.&nbsp;
